On June 25, 1955, he married Elfrieda Pelton, and she survives. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Melvin loved to work with wood and refinish furniture, then give it away. He also enjoyed hiking in Oak Openings, where he knew every trail. Surviving besides his wife, Elfrieda, is son, Dennis (Sandra) Jewell of Swanton; daughter, Diana (Tracy) Ziegler of Archbold; grandchildren, Alan, Tiffany (Billy) , and Nathan Jewell & Donovan (Jennifer), Michael (Crystal), and Lisa (Robert) Ziegler; great-grandchildren, Kadence, Melody and Merrick; and step-great-grandchildren, Meara and Kadince. He is also survived by brother, Gary (Susan) Jewell of Monroe, Michigan. He was preceded in death by both parents."
