"York Daily Record [York, PA], 26 September 1951," p. 33: "Mrs. Sarah Ann (Bnllhart) Ness, wife of John II. Ness, died at 2 p.m. yesterday at her home, 2150 Susquehanna trail north. Daughter of the late Jacob and Rebecca (Yost) Brillhart, Mrs. Ness was 90 years old. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Herman B. Ness, at home and Charles H. Ness, Lancaster. She was a member of First Church of the Brethren and of the Sunday school of that church. Rev. Bernard N. King, pastor of First Church of the Brethren, will officiate at the funeral services at the Shindler Funeral home 915 North Duke street, at 2 p.m. Friday. He will be assisted by Rev. Lewis E. Kline, pastor of St. Pauls FUB church, Hellam. Interment will be in Prospect Hill cemetery."

He was born in Penobscot, the son of Frank and Ursula (Wardwell) Wardwell. He attended schools in Penobscot and Castine and graduated from the Gilman Business College. He was one of the three founders of the Bangor Tire Company, retiring in 1959. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society and was a member of the Bangor Lions Club, and the Elks Club. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mildred (McMahone) Wardwell, Bangor; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Jacqueline) Lee, Bangor; a son, Cmdr. Arthur F. Wardwell USN, San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Wood and Mrs. John Pratt, Castine, Mrs. Marguerite Heal, Portland, and Mrs. Walter Silney, East Pepperell, Mass.; five brothers, Ernest, Robert, and Douglas, all of Bangor, Donald and William of Bucksport; several nieces and nephew."
