He is a maternal ancestor of President Barack Obama. He was a Huguenot refugee, who came to the Province about the year of 1655, and located on the south side of the South River, upon a tract of land, which was granted to him by Lord Baltimore, by the name of 'Laval;' he was a merchant and planter. He contributed to the public cost of an expedition against the Nanticoke Indians in 1678; appointed by the General Assembly of Maryland, in 1683, a Commissioner to purchase sites and lay out towns, etc., and was a prominent, influential citizen of Anne Arundel Co., Md.; at his death he left a will whereby he bequeathed to his wife and children, several thousand acres of land, silver plate, etc. He m. Find A Grave memorial 129911490 offers James' obituary: "James Lowell was born January 31, 1956 to Lowell Henry and Gladys Mable (McVitty) Hoberland. The family were living on the northwest corner of South Center St. and Fremont St. in Zearing, Iowa. In August of 1969, James and his parents moved to El Monte Calif. In 1974 James graduated from El Monte High School. In the fall of 1974, James started working at the Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, DelMar and Pomona Racetracks picking up and dropping off the track judges at their designated post on the back side of the racetrack with 2 Hackney horses pulling a 2 seater buggy. When his father, Lowell, retired James took over his father's job,driving the 4 Hackney horse hitch hauling 4 track judges on the front side of the racetrack going in front of the Grandstand. On May 28, 1983 James married Carrie Roedler Tetzlaw at the Spanish Gardens Hotel in Duarte, CA. On July 23, 1986 their daughter Brandi Rae Hoberland was born. In 1987 James and his family bought a home outside of Phelan, CA. where they kept and raised horses and dogs. James was a loving kind hearted man. He grew his hair long and donated it to be made into wigs for children with cancer. The family was involved with Border Collie Rescue giving a temporary home to the homeless dogs. James's best friend, traveling companion and fishing buddy was a rescued Border Collie named Mopar. The family also gave temporary homes to old race horses. In 1996 James had a cameo scene in the movie Out to Sea starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. James' hobbies were racing and rock climbing with his radio controlled cars, cooking on the barbacue grill, fishing, camping, NASCAR races and the Denver Bronco's. At the age of 54, James retired in October 2010 after 35 years working at the Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, DelMar and Pomona Race Tracks in California. On January 19, 2014 James suffered a massive stroke. He passed away on March 3, 2014 at his home with loving care from his wife, Carrie, his friend Randy and Hospice. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ilo Jean Hoberland Cates, all his brother's in laws and two nephews, Rexford Lowell Hughes and Kevin Duane Perisho.
James is survived by his wife Carrie of Phelan, CA.; his daughter Brandi Rae of Riverside, CA., His sister's Peg Kinnetz of Iowa Falls, IA; Loretta Hughes of Ames, IA; his brother Dan and wife Rebecca Hoberland of Sharps Chapel, TN. Plus many nieces, nephews and cousins."

[19107] "The Santa Fe New Mexican, 14 July 1964," p. ll: "Daniel Leisher, for many years a resident of Santa Fe, died recently at the Presbyertian Hospital in Albuquerque of complications following surgery. Leisher had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1946 and until his recent retirement was a civil engineer attached to the Bureau of Public Roads. Leisher had worked with the young people at the Church of the Holy Faith and at the Santa Fe Boys Club. He saw active service In two wars, serving with the Signal Corps in France In World War I and as Executive Officer of the Quartermaster Depot in Fort Worth, Tex., in World War II. Leisher is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Curry Fewell, and two sons, Richard D. Leisher of Lined, Neb., and William B. Leisher, of Manchester, Tenn., a sister, Mrs. Kathryn Carter of Winter Haven, Fla., and a brother, Charles, of Altoona, Pa.; four granddaughters and one grandson. Memorial services will be conducted in the Church of the Holy Faith at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, with the Rev. Henry F. Seaman officiating. The ashes will be interred in the National Cemetery in private graveside services on Monday, July 20, following the return of Mrs. Leisher to Santa Fe and the arrival of members of the family."

"The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 21 December 2016": "Surry - Norman L. Perkins was born Nov. 6, 1937, in Castine. He died at home Dec. 12, 2016, in Surry.
He is survived by his wife, Marie (Ames) Perkins; sons Donnie Perkins and wife, Etta, Timothy Perkins Sr., of Blue Hill, daughter Lisa Ruby and husband, Richard, of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren: Mandy, Joshua, Jessica, Anne, Shane, Danielle, Sara, Joelle, Timothy Jr., and Benjamin, and their spouses; and 16 great-grandchildren. Norman is also survived by his sister in-laws Bonnie Gray and Marilyn Moore; brother in-law George and his wife, Barbara Ames; dear friends Maurice and Addie Cunningham. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Blanch (Perkins) Gray, brother Haywood Gray, son Lawris (Lonnie) Perkins and grandson Aaron Fones. Norman was raised in Penobscot and graduated from GSA in 1956. He worked many different jobs; from logging, carpentry, and painting. He retired from International Paper in Bucksport. Norman was a Mason with the Ira Berry Lodge No. 0128 and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows No. 79, a lifetime member of both for over 50 years. Norman was known as Bumpa and Bumper by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. He was a man of many talents, known as MacGyver by all. He was a fine carpenter and a master gardener and had the biggest heart one can imagine. Norman will be missed by all who knew him."
