He is survived by his son, John Chipman Sr., and wife, Gerry; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, Dana Rice Sr.; brothers, Avery Chipman and wife, Estelle, George Chipman and wife, Rebecca, Herb Chipman, and Albert Chipman and wife, Betty; sisters-in-law, Annabelle Chipman and Alice Chipman; grandchildren, Lamont Rice, Mona Sperry, Debra Worden and husband, Kenneth, Laurie Floyd, Fred Rice and partner, Melissa, John Chipman Jr. and wife, Theresa and Dana Rice Jr. and partner, Kristin; great- grandchildren, Amber Rice, Heather Worden, Jessica Rice, Cassie Floyd, Brennon Chipman, Zachary Floyd, Tyler Rice, Hunter Floyd, Ashton Rice, Seanna Rice; many nieces and nephews; and by his beloved dog, Skipper. Hutchins, 65, went home to be with his Lord Jesus June 6, 2008, in his wife's arms, surrounded by his family, which he adored, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 25, 1942, in Bucksport, the son of Alton and Eleanor (Grindle) Hutchins. John graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1961 and from the University of Maine in 1965. He had been a teacher and coach at Miami Beach, Belfast and Eastport high schools, as well as numerous business ventures in both Florida and Maine, the last being Soper's Market, East Orland. John was a great athlete, in his younger years play-ing in the college World Series while a student at the University of Maine, and later years in golf tournaments around the country, poker games with his buddies and following the Red Sox. In his latter years, John enjoyed the peace and quite of Orland with his wife of 45 years, Dianne (Soper) Hutchins. He is survived by their son, Lance Hutchins and his wife, Robyn; five grandchildren, Alex, William, Hunter, Gracie and Gabriel; three sisters, Linda Wilson and her husband, Chandler, Brenda Moore and her husband, Dick and Regina Murchie and her husband, Barry; two brothers, Harold Hutchins and his companion, Virginia, and Terry Hutchins; a sister-in-law, Joan Hutchins; his mother-in-law, Zelma So-per; a special sister-in-law, Joanne Sanborn and her husband, Gene; Ritchie and Lee Jay Henderson, who he also thought of as his other sons; special nieces, Muriel, Rhonda, Shelly, Susie, Heidi, Becky, Jessie and Cecilia; special nep-hews, Philip, Ricky, Bill, Harold Jr., Dennis, Brandon, Gordon Jr., Shawn, Mike, Jay, Johnny, Jason, C.W., Jamie Lee, Cooper, Garrett and Grady. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Lyman, Clyde and Gordon; and his sister, Louise."
