[53644] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 17 May 2019: "Glenburn - Frank 'Skip' Mayhew III, 57, departed this life on May 15, 2019. He was born on November 29th, 1961. He was raised in Hermon, Maine, where he attended elementary through high school, graduating from Hermon High School, class of 1980. He grew up working in the woods from the age of 10 until he graduated high school, when he joined the Navy in active duty for four years. Skip was stationed in Kings Bay, GA, Norfolk, VA, and Bayonne, NJ. He once travelled from the North Pole to Bermuda over a 30 day period. He also visited Sweden, England, Norway, Jamaica, Haiti, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico. Most importantly, during his four years of active duty he met Vicki, in 1983. He spent the following 9 years in the reserves. After his time with the Navy he was in the logging industry for 6 years, until he and Vicki started their own firewood business which they owned and operated for over 10 years. Skip also worked for Napa Auto Parts, Maine Tree Service, Katahdin Tree Service, Subway, and Sam's Club. He was a member of the West Glenburn Community Club. He was both an avid hunter and yardsaler. Skip is survived by his wife of 28 years, the love of his life and best friend, Vicki Mayhew. He is also survived by his father-in-law and dear friend, Ronnie Tarr; Cory Ness, who is not only the mother of his two surviving children, but also a dear and devoted friend; and his children, Jennifer Mayhew, Jeffrey and wife, Jenn Mayhew, and Christopher Tarr. Skip and Vicki's youngest child, Frank Mayhew IV, passed away on January 3, 2016, from FFI. Skip also leaves behind his grandchildren: First born and special grandson, Quintin, Landen, Libby, and JJ; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Horace & Kelley Dunton, brother-in-law, Dennis Smith, sister-in-law, Terry Mayhew; several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Travis Dunton and Jessie Smith, and wife Rebecca; special nieces, Shantelle Edkins and Tasha Robichaud; two special aunts, Ada Boudreau and Charlotte Hanscom and family, Uncle Calvin McKay and his wife Sandy; cousins, Lori and Ralph Treadwell, Dot Tardiff and family, Richard, Cathy, Jeremy, Cleveland and Allison Bemis, and Karen and John Austin. Special friends include, Bruce and Sharon Nason, Robert and Joanne Fontaine, Roger and Tina Johnson, Nicole Plain, Devon Treadwell-Johnson, Matt and Michelle Perkins, Bryan Thurlow, Kelly Wotton, Mike Dennis, Donnie and Roberta Alexander, Dicky Treadwell, Carol Treadwell, Jane Withee, Mark Pomeroy & family, Dennis Frost, Melinda Adams and Tammy Noyes. He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Smith, brother, Scott Mayhew, mother-in-law, Betty Tarr, and special uncle, Cleveland Bemis. Skip is extremely grateful for the amazing medical professionals who cared for him in Bangor and Boston; Darla Cameron, Sue Leighton, Dawn McKay, Dr. Josanna Rodriguez-Lopez and staff, Nina, Rose, and Avery, Dr. Richard Channick, Veronica and Denise, of SJH Pulmonary Rehab, NL Home Health staff: Kim, Sherryl, Devon, Carrie and Anne, and Hospice staff; Marge, Cindy and Tricia. Skip deeply appreciated the immense love, prayers and support he and Vicki received during his illness. Skip followed in his son Frankie's footsteps by donating his brain to the NPPSC for FFI research. He also participated in the University of San Francisco research program for FFI in hopes of helping the next generations escape the deadly disease. He wanted everyone to know that he wrote this obituary with the help of his son, Chris, and if he forgot anyone, he promises he didn't mean to."
