[2724] Henry was first Earl of Hereford, Constable of England. He died en route to the Holy Land. He was one of the 25 barons elected by their peers to enforce the terms of the Magna Charta. In the civil war he fought on the side of Louis and was captured at Lincoln in 1217, taking the Crusader's Cross the same year. He had received the Earldom of Hereford from King John in 1200, having succeeded to the family estates in the Welsh Marches upon the death of his grandfather Humphrey III.
