[37454] This person is from the unverified http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hume in 2014 which offers: "George Hume served in the Colonial Troops of Spotsylvania County as a Lieutenant under the command of Captain William Bledsoe. He produced his commission in open court and took oath on 2 Sept. 1729. This is recorded in the Order Book of Spotsylvania County. The sword which he carried was mentioned in the inventory of his estate, recorded in Culpeper Will Book A, page 228. This service makes all his descendants eligible for the Society of Colonial Wars and the Society of Colonial Dames. . . . The Colonial Militia Officers who produced their commissions before the Court of His Majesty Hon'l. Justices for the county as directed by law. Capt. William Bledsoe and his officers James Williams and George Hume took oath 2 Sept. 1729. (See Order Book, Page 342, Colonial Records for Spotsylvania Co., Colonial Militia. This entitles a woman to belong to the Colonial Dames of America. . . . Lt. George Hume, J.P. (1698-1760; 2d son but eldest with issue, of Sir George Home, Bt., Wedderburn Castle, Berwickshire, Scotland, 10th baron of his line), participated, with his father, in the Earl of Mar's uprising for the Stuarts, 1715, sailed for America and settled in Spotsylvania (later Culpeper) Co., Va., 1721, was surveyor of Spotsylvania, Orange and Frederick counties, taught George Washington surveying and was associated with him in many surveys, Lt. in Indian campaign, m 1728, Elizabeth Proctor, of St. George Par., Spotsylvania Co., Va."
