The necrology of Lüneburg records the death '9 Feb' of 'Bernhardus dux'. The 'Vita Meinwerci' records the death 'Id Feb' of 'Bernhardus dux Saxonicus, filius Herimanni ducis'. - m ([990]) Hildegarde von Stade, daughter of Heinrich I 'dem Kahlen' Graf von Stade [Nordmark] & his second wife Hildegard [von Reinhausen] ([974/77]-3 Oct 1011, bur Lüneburg St Michaelis). "Maritime History of Brooksville," LeCain W. Smith (Brooksville, ME Historical Society, 2005), p. 79 states "He was a self-educated ship's caulker who became a master mariner. In his younger days he and his brother Job worked hard at a Castine shipyard. They would row the two miles to and from Home across the Bagaduce no matter what the weather. He first married Eliza Condon and had a son Timothy. In 1820 he married Polly Snow Parker and they had eight sons, all but one of whom followed the sea and became captains."
