He was an avid hunter, and also enjoyed fishing, and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Flaherty) Clark; children, Sam Clark and partner, Sue, Corinne Tometich and husband, Brad, and Martha Redington; grandchildren, Annaliese Goodwin, Johnathan Clark, Michael Clark, Nathan Redington, and Ashley Redington; stepchildren, Alan, Duane, and Shawn Geel, and Cathleen Curtis; 5 step-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren. Kenneth was born November 12, 1938, the youngest of four children to Lee and Esther (Bowker) Getchell. He grew up in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and graduated from Bridgewater High School. Upon graduating, he attended and graduated from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. He joined the Army in 1961, serving for 3 years with an honorable discharge. When he returned from the Army, he was employed by the State of Massachusetts in the Department of Corrections. He worked at the Bridgewater State Prison for Criminal Insane, for 31 years, as a correction officer obtaining the rank of Deputy Superintendent. Kenneth was awarded the Charles Gaughan Award for commitment to patient care. While he was employed, he attended Northeastern University graduating with a BS in Correction. Upon retirement to Maine, Ken was employed at Hanscom Construction, Inc., and he 'helped' his son at Shannon Drilling. Kenneth also served his community as a Chaplain for American Legion Post #9. In his free time, he loved to create and share music as a member of the South Shore Men of Harmony, the Center Street Congregational Church Choir of Machias, and the Blueberry Festival Men's Quartet. Kenneth will be most fondly remembered for his love and commitment to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and all his siblings, Josephine, Stanley, and Walter Getchell. Survivors include Kenneth's wife of 57 years, Joyce Getchell (Child); children, Michael and his wife, Song, of Carmel, Indiana, Martha of Machias, Gregory and his partner, Xin Zang, of Belmont, Massachusetts, Christopher and his partner, Virginia Preston, of Whitneyville, and Katelyn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, CPT Paul and wife, CPT Amiee Getchell of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Daniel Getchell of Carmel, Indiana, and Sophie Zang of Belmont, Massachusetts; great-grandchildren, Darcy Getchell and Theodora Getchell, both of Pinehurst, North Carolina."
