"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 26 October 1946, p. 19: "South Blue Hill, Feb. 23 - Mrs. Emma Sylvester, 84, widow of Fred Sylvester, died at her home here this morning. Mrs. Sylvester was born April 19, 1863 at Etna, daughter of Lois (Varney) and Andrew J. Friend. She was a past noble grand of Lakeside Rebekah lodge at Etna. Surviving are two sons, Leon of South Blue Hill, and Frank of Brooklin; two grandsons, Paul and Stephen Sylvester, both of Blue Hill; a step-grandson; and two great-grandchildren." Emma is daughter of Andrew Jackson Friend (1837-1919) & Lois A. Varney (1842-1867; m. 3 December 1860 in Etna, Penobscot Co., ME).
