[21244] Charles was killed when struck by lightening. He and Emma may have also had a son, Clinton. The Blacks purchased the Colby farm in the big blueberry field south of the Grange Hall near Mariaville, ME - this farm was built in the mid-1850s - they also purchased the Hastings or Merrill place. This information is from historian Mark A. Honey of Ellsworth, ME, 2000. The 1900 federal census lists them in Otis, Hancock Co., ME. "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 10 July 1907," p. 1: "Ellsworth, July 9 - The second death by lightning in Hancock county within three days occurred this afternoon in Mariaville. Charles Black, a leading farmer of that place, sought shelter from a thunderstorm under a tree in a field where he was working. His family missed him this evening and found his body under the tree, a bolt having passed down the tree and killed Black instantly. Burns on the forehead and chest were the only marks on the body. Black was 50 years of age and leaves a widow, son and daughter."

His skull was fractured from the forehead to the base of the skull. He lived for 8 weeks after the explosion and died the 14th of Aug. He was 32 years of age and left a wife and 5 children." This file states Thomas is son of Alexander Davis (18291896) & Ann Humphreys (1832-1906, m. 11 November 1854 at Llanfabon, Glamorgan, Wales).

[13088] Joseph m. 1663 at Scituate, MA Mary Barstow (b. Dec. 28, 1641 at Dedham, MA, d. May, 1715, dau. of William Barstow and Anna Hubbard). Joseph was a captain under Col. Church in the expedition of 1689 into Maine, and in the disasterous one of Sir William Phipps in 1670 against Quebec. (See Peirce's Colonial Lists, p. 107.) Joseph was a tailor and innkeeper. Joseph and Mary had Mary (b. 24 Dec. 1666 at Scituate, m. 1689 Benjamin Curtis [b. Jan. 1666 at Scituate, son of William Curtis], had with him dau. Sarah [b. 20 Dec. 1697 at Scituate, m. 1725 Samuel Clapp]).
