[25133] NEGHR for July, 1917, p. 236 states: "Sir Gilbert Jocelyn, a wealthy Norman knight, came into England, it is said, with the Conqueror, and married the daughter of a Saxon thane. He settled in Lincolnshire, where he held of Gilbert of Gaunt the lordships of Semperingham and Tyhrrington." His son, Gilbert, became a priest and "held the livings of Semperingham and Tyrrington. [Gilbert] was clerk to the Bishops of Lincoln, but refused to accept the office of Archdeacon of Lincoln. [Gilbert] founded at Semperingham an order for monks and nuns which was later known as the Gilbertine Order. Many miracles are said to have been wrought for those who prayed at his tomb, and in 1202 he was canonized by Pope Innocent III as St. Gilbert of Semperingham, 4 Fe. being his commemoration day."

Services will be held Saturday morning from Chaikowsky Funeral Home, 318 W. Centre St., Shenandoah. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George's Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery."
