[47420] "Bangor Daily News, 19 May 2003": "Donald K. Wardwell, 82, died May 17, 2003. He was born in Castine June 2, 1920, the son of Frank and Ursula Wardwell. He had retired from the St. Regis Paper Company in 1982 after 37 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4197 and the 75th Division. As a veteran of World War II, he had taken part in the Battle of the Bulge Campaign in 1944 in Europe. He was a member of the Duck Cove Community Club. After his retirement, his interests had been working in the woods, raising large gardens which he shared with family and friends, reading, and until 1999 spending the summers going to fairs around the state with his daughter and son-in-law, as herdsman for Beechwood Farm. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Soper) Wardwell; he is survived by a daughter, Donna Wilson; two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Neva, Joel and his fiance, Jan MacDonald, of Bucksport; five grandchildren, Gregory Wilson and wife, Leslie, Gary Wilson and wife, Marie, Kelly Chambers, Todd Wardwell and wife, Joanne, Jennifer Wardwell and friend, Sandra Sanderson; 10 great-grandchildren, Cody, Cassie, Chelsea, McKayla and Matte Wilson, Jacob and Paige Chambers, Dylan Thibodeau, Jared and Kellen Wardwell; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Helen Wardwell of Bucksport. He was predeceased by a son, Michael, who died in Vietnam in 1967; five brothers, Arthur, Ernest, Robert, William and Douglas; and four sisters, Marie Wood, Doris Pratt, Marguerite Heal and Pauline Sliney; and his son-in-law, Wilbur Wilson."
