He played in the Shrine Band, the Newport Band, the Russell Band in Bangor, and the Brewer Band. He had lived in Bangor since the age of 10 and was educated in the Bangor schools. He is survived by his wife Bertha M. (Green) Strout of Bangor; three daughters, Mrs. Charlene Custer of Orland Park, Ill., Mrs. Marjory Strout of Bangor, Mrs. Evelyn Greene of Hampden Highlands; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Morrison of Vassalboro; one brother, Ralph Strout of Boston, Mass.; four grandchildren and a niece."
