George Hockensmith married Martha Buchanan in 1764 in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland and being Lutheran in his religion assume he was married in The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, Maryland. To this union 10 children are known: Johan Michael - Mary - Catherine - Eva - George - Nancy - Susan - Elizabeth - Samuel and Martha. George was a Revolutionary War Soldier as were two of his brothers: Johan Michael and Edward Hockensmith. George served his country in the summer of 1775, Western Maryland - 1st Lieutenant in the Flying Camp under Captain William Blair - he also served in the 3rd Battalion, Maryland. He fought in at least two battles: the Battle of Long Island - Battle of White Plains."
