The son of Sir THOMAS KINNE/KINEY, he married SARAH CHEEVER IN 1621 at Kings Lynn, Norfolk, Eng.
In order to escape the religious persecution that was occuring in England in the early 17th century, the family of John Kinney followed other Puritans to Leyen, Holland in about 1623/4. While in Holland, he sent his son, HENRY, on a vessel to New England in 1635 where he was apprenticed and settled in Salem in the Mass. Bay Colony.
In 1649, the John Kinney family came to New England. In 1662, he was listed as a mariner and inn holder in Boston. His will was probated in Essex Co. Mass on Sept. 30, 1670.

[57136] Find A Grave memorial 254782489 offers: "With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother to the loving arms of her heavenly Father. Mom was a homemaker, doing all the work around the house that is required to raise a family. When we boys graduated and left home, she applied for a job in the Jonesport - Beals school system and spent 15 plus years as a substitute teacher/study hall monitor. She loved to read, knit, listen to music and dance. She loved to eat and would try anything at least once. She loved people and always saw the good in everybody; she invited everyone to visit her on her porch. She loved sitting on the porch in the sun with her binoculars watching the boats go by and listening to the men talk on the VHF radio. I can hear her say, 'The mouths on those boys!' but she didn't stop listening. She was a neighborhood mom to all the kids; all were welcome to her home. She is pre-deceased by her mom, Kathleen E. Smith/Palmer/Alley and her dad, Ernest S. Palmer; her husband, Calvert N. Carver; her son, Randy S. Blackwood; her twin sister, Lucille and Lucille's husband, Wayne Woodward; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, all of whom are missed dearly. She is survived by sons Bill Blackwood, Ronald Carver and his wife, Lisa, Steven Carver, and daughter in-law Dot Blackwood; grandchildren, Shanna Blackwood, Erick Blackwood and his wife, Crystal, Terrell Carver, Kristy Blackwood and her partner, Joe Murray, Noel Blackwood and his wife, Andrea, and Royce Blackwood. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Zach Vincent, Emma Vincent, Tyler Blackwood, and Caden Blackwood. She is also remembered by many family members and friends. She was a proud member of the Jonesport Historical Society and served as an officer for many years."

[5966] BetFoster1@aol.com shared in June, 2003: "Margaret Winslow is a daughter of Edward; being the daughter of his first wife. Her mother was Eleanor Pelham, and Margaret had two brothers by Eleanor and Edward - one was Richard Winslow and one Josiah. That is why references to Margaret usually say she was sister to the Winslow brothers. Robert Hicks, born 1580 married Margaret Winslow. Robert's father was James Hicks, born 1550; his mother was Phebe Allyne, born 1557. Baptist Hicks born 1524 was Robert's grandfather and Mary Evarts his grandmother born 1528. Thomas Hicks was Robert's great grandfather, born 1487, and Margaret Atwood his great grandmother born ____. John Hicks (there were two John Hicks), was his great great grandfather, born 1455 and Joan Damer was Robert's great grandmother, born 1459. So - James was the father of Robert Hicks; Baptist was the father of James and Thomas was the father of Baptist and the son of John Hicks and Joan Damer. Now to go on to Baptist Hicks of Chipping Campden, born 1551, died 1629; his father was another Robert Hicks, born 1518 and mother was Julia Arthur, born 1520. Baptist had 5 brothers and only 1 lived until 1612. Baptist's grandfather was John Hicks, born 1477 and his grandmother was Joan Darnley. His great grandfather was John Hicks, born 1455 and his great grandmother was Joan Damer born 1459. Baptist Hicks bought the Chipping Campden property in 1624 from Sir Thomas Smythe (who was also listed as a Treasurer at Jamestown) but he was not born or brought up in that town. He died in 1629 and left his property to daughter Julian. However, we are descended from both and I shall let you figure it all out. We certainly must at least be descended to John Hicks and Joan Damer." Margaret Winslow is remembered as the first woman teacher in America; her brothers were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620. For Margaret's wardrobe see"The Mayflower Quarterly, Vol. 81, No. 3" (Plymouth, MA: The General Society of Mayflower Descendants), p. 231.
