[52391] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 29 May 1943": "Alice M. Alden Hodgdon, 85, widow of Matthew Hodgdon, died Friday night at the home of MRs. Harold S. Dillingham, where she had lived for the past four years. Mrs. Hodgdon, a good neighbor, beloved by all who knew her, had many friends among old school pupils, who often wrote her that her personal interest and teachings had always been an inspiration. She was an artist, drawing and painting scenes and quaint people and making many happy with her handiwork, both pictures and embroidery. She was a Congregationalist. Her mind active till the last, she took a keen interest in al activites. she was the daughter of Augustus and Mary (Robinson) Aden descended from John Alden of Mayflower fame and Capt. Michael Pierce of the Colonial wars and through him back to several signers of the Magna Charter of England. Mrs. Hodgdon leaves on daughter, Mrs. Llewellyn N. Edwards, Glen Echo, Md.; three sisters, MRs. Joel Hupper, Tenants Harbor, Miss Caroline E. Alden, Alfred, N. Y., and Mrs. Enoch Pond, San Diego, Calif.; two nephews, Roscoe Hupper of New York and and Harold Hupper of Tenants Harbor; and a niece, Miss Marjorie Hupper of Tenants Harbor."
