[860] Anthony and his brother Joshua went to the devastated Falmouth, ME to take up the family property there in 1725, following the Indian wars. He had six children with Sarah, his first wife. His second wife (int. 5 Nov 1756) was Keranhappuck (nee Proctor) Hicks, daughter of Samuel Proctor and Sarah Bracket - she survived him 37 years and d. 1822 - after Anthony died rooms in the family home were set aside for her use, but she later moved to Gorham where she died in the home of a son of her daughter, Meribuh. [See "Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine," George Thomas Little (New York: Lewis Pub. Co., 1909), p. 44. and cf. "History of Colonel Edmund Phinney's 31st Regiment of Foot," Nathan Gold (Portland, ME: Thurston, 1896), p. 37, which states Kernahappuck m. (3) in 1776 Pelitiah March of Saccarappa and d. at Otisfield, ME 21 Nov 1817 at age 73.] Anthony and his brother Joshua were prominent citizens and owned much of the Neck (the present-day business section of Portland) - Anthony's house stood at Danforth and Brackett Streets, Portland. [5369] On the death of her half brother, Edward VI, on July 6, 1553, she became the legal heir to the throne. Lord High Chamberlain John Dudley, duke of Northumberland, however, favored the succession of his daughter-in-law, Lady Jane Grey. He proclaimed her queen on July 10, but the country supported Mary. Mary began her reign by sweeping away the religious innovations of her father. Mass was restored without opposition and the authority of the pope reestablished, but Parliament refused to restore the church lands seized under Henry VIII. Mary, however, restored the property that the Crown still possessed. Even more disastrous was her marriage to Philip II, king of Spain. The engagement was greeted in England by a formidable rebellion under the leadership of Sir Thomas Wyatt (1521-54) to depose Mary and put her half sister, Elizabeth, later Elizabeth I, on the throne. Philip was an uncompromising Roman Catholic and unpopular in England. At his order, Mary joined in a war against France, with the result that Calais, the last remnant of the English conquests won during the Hundred Years' War with France, was lost in 1558. The ferocity with which Mary's personal character has been assailed by certain writers must be ascribed to religious zeal. She was called Bloody Mary because of a large number of religious persecutions that took place during her reign; almost 300 people were condemned to death as a result of trials for heresy. Mary was succeeded by Elizabeth I.

(1), as well as Anna Brainerd (49) and John Madder (23); the census states Wilkison's occupation is "drilling wells." In the 1910 federal census of Wooster his household contains himself, Anna A. (56), Sabina E. (31), Earl D. (33, Paul W. (27) and Emma A. (25). An unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2009 states Wilkison is son of John B. Meeks.
