She was born January 17, 1932, in West Enfield, to Jesse Ballard and Violet (Currie) Ballard. Joanne graduated from Howland High School, class of 1949, and Aroostook State Teacher's College in Presque Isle, in 1951. She also earned her Masters and CAS degrees from the University of Maine, Orono. She married Raymond D. Bowden Jr. on March 28, 1952, and they had two children, Sherry and Raymond III. She worked as a school teacher for many years, and retired from the Bangor School system as a high school teacher. Joanne was always up for a new adventure. She loved taking walks and going on day trips, viewing the sights and sounds of Maine so, in honor of our mom, Joanne, take a walk or hike. Enjoy nature and as you look around, think of her and ways to help other people enjoy the moment as she did. Joanne is survived by her children, Sherry (Bowden) Phillips and her husband, Richard, of Orrington, Raymond D. Bowden III and his wife, Donna, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts; sister, Sally (Ballard) Fitzgerald; brother, Walter Ballard; three grandchildren, Daniel Phillips, and his wife, Kelly, Lindsey (Bowden) White, and her husband, Raymond, and Sarah Bowden; and one great-grandchild, Quinn Phillips. She was predeceased by her husband; sisters, Violet (Ballard) Noble and Patsy (Ballard) Huard; and brother, Reid Ballard." Jesse is daughter of Jesse Reid Ballard (1898-1961) & Violet Currie (1907-1986; m. 15 August 1928 in ME).

King of Connaught, last Monarch of Ireland from 1166 until 1186 when he retired to a monastery. http://www.magoo.com/hugh/irishkings.html#pedigrees (2002) states: "King of Connaught. Son of Toirdhealbhach Ua Conchobhair. O'Connor along with his allies, particularly Tiernan O'Rourke, king of Breifne, as well as the Dubliners, drove Diarmid MacMurrough (Mac Murchadha) from Ireland in 1166. MacMurrough appealed for help to King Henry II of England. This opened the door for the Norman invasion of Ireland beginning in 1169. Deposed in 1186. Died in 1198. Interred at Clonmacnoise. One of eight kings of the Ui Neill, and four of other dynasties, called a "king of Ireland" by the Annals of Ulster. (Byrne p. 256). Byrne says he was "the last high-king of Ireland." p. 257. One of eight kings of the Ui Neill, and four of other dynasties, called a "king of Ireland" by the Annals of Ulster."
