Evelyn was born in Jonesboro to parents, Harry M. and Harriet (Whitney) Look. She leaves her husband of 73 years, Vincent Dowling; four children, Marilyn Dowling, Stephen and wife, Shelly Dowling, Philip Dowling and wife, Hilary Nolan, and Gary and wife, Sue Dowling; eight grandchildren, Kelly, Kim, Zara, Tessa, Luke, Kevin, Eric, and Brian; and four great-grandchildren, Katie, Ben, Jacob, and Taylor. Evelyn also leaves her niece and nephew, Meredith Anson and Mark Mawhinney. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Muriel; her dear cousin and brother-in-law, Eugene Mawhinney; and her sister-in-law, Annie Mawhinney. Evelyn enriched the lives of those around her with her playful sense of humor and her genuine interest and caring for family and friends. Her endless batches of chocolate chip cookies, (code named 'brussel sprouts' to protect them from consumption during transport), blueberry muffins, and fresh loaves of bread will be fondly remembered. Evelyn graduated from Jonesboro High School and Washington Academy Normal School, earned a BA from University of Maine in Orono, and a master's degree in library science from Southern Connecticut State College. She taught at Washburn and Fairfield Junior High schools in Maine, and served as librarian for ten years at the East Hampton Junior High School in Connecticut. Evelyn and her husband, Vincent lived and worked in Connecticut for 38 years, living in Stamford, Torrington, New London, Weston, and Glastonbury. They returned to Jonesboro, Maine, in 1985 and Evelyn became active at the Jonesboro Union Church and the Ladies Auxiliary. Evelyn felt a strong connection to local history and helped to compile 'The History of Jonesboro, ME- Bicentennial.' In retirement, she and Vincent traveled extensively, including trips to the Amazon River and Alaska."
