[2566] Boleslaus II extended his rule over Bohemia, Moravia, much of Silesia and the part of Poland which was later to be in the Austrian province of Galicia. He founded the bishopric of Prague in 973 and saw Christianity firmly established in the dukedom. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f015.htm offers: "He maintained good relations with the Germans, and it was in large measure owing to this that the favorite project of his father was realized in 973. The Bishopric of Prague was founded, and the Bohemian Church detached from its dependence upon the German see of Resenburg, who was instrumental in the expansion of Germanism at the expense of Slavdom. Christianization and political development went side by side, and after a series of wars with Germans and Poles, Bohemia may be said to have found her natural boundaries by the beginning of the eleventh century. These were set by the Treaty of 1013 with the Emperor Henry II." Cf. [13392] "The Ludington [Michigan] Daily News, 27 April 1948," p. 1: "James Brillhart, age 75, prominent Oceana county fruit grower and one of the oddest and best known residents of Smith corners was instantly killed and the Rev. Mr. William Meadows, pastor of Hart Methodist church, was seriously injured in an automobile accident at Schaner corners, a mile south of Smith corners on US-31 at 7 p.m. Monday. According to Oceana county sheriffs officers who investigated, the accident occurred when the Brillhart light truck, which was coming on a cross road from the west onto US-31, and the Meadows automobile crashed. Both cars were demolished. The Rev. Mr. Meadows, who was knocked unconscious, was taken to Oceana hospital in Hart where it was said he was suffering from chest injuries. More X-rays were to be taken this morning to determine the extent of his injuries. He was enroute to Ludington where he .was to conduct a service at Bethany Methodist church. The body of Brillhart is at Tate funeral home in Hart. Funeral arrangements have not been made. He is survived by his widow a son, Raymond Brillhart, who is a Hart businessman, and five grandchildren."

[52729] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 21 January 2023: "Bar Harbor - Bob completed his watch, signed 'the log,'and went home to his lord and savior on January 13, 2023. He was born January 29, 1931, in Gardiner, ME. He grew up on a small dairy farm in North Whitefield, ME, and attended a one-room school grade 2 through 7 at South Windsor, ME, before his family relocated to Gardiner. He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1949 and Maine Maritime Academy in 1952 and 1974. He was first employed by Isthmian Steamship Corporation as a Junior Third Assistant Operating Engineer on the SS Steel Traveler sailing to the Far East from New York City in 1953. He transferred to the US Navy serving on seven ships and at four shore commands. While assigned to COMNAVAIRLANT [Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic], in Norfolk, VA, as a Marine Project Engineer, he converted nine black-oil-fueled attack aircraft carriers to distillate fuel. This conversion initiated the age-old requirement to clean boiler-fire sides every 600 hours. For this work he was recommended for the 'Legion of Merit' medal. Cooler heads prevailed in Washington D.C., and he was awarded another 'eritorious Commendation Medal.' After completing naval service, Bob was employed by the State of Maine in the Bureau of Maine Emergency Management Agency for seventeen years. While employed he attended night school and completed the educational requirements for an undergraduate degree and a master's degree in public administration at the University of Maine. After retirement, Bob and his wife moved to Bar Harbor, ME. He was predeceased by his parents, John A. Malaney and Josephine A. (Hodgdon) Malaney; his first wife. Leah Fortier Malaney; and his second wife, Kathleen M. Malaney. He is survived by three stepdaughters, Annie Volmer and her husband, Dr. Josh Carpenter, of VT, Susan E. Volmer of Belfast, ME, and Dr. Stephanie G. Volmer of NJ; and three step-granddaughters, Abbey Volmer of AK, Lelia Volmer of VT, and Julia N.O. Volmer of NJ. Bob's family will remember him for his generosity and humor, his steady temperament, his curiosity and adventuring spirit, his culinary skills and appreciation for good food and wine, his devotion to family, and his wonderful gift for storytelling."
