He was born on December 17, 1939, in Bangor, Maine, to Richard Franklin Averill Sr. and Elaine Genevieve (Watson) Averill. Bob graduated from Bangor High School in 1958, after which he enrolled in the Army until his honorable discharge in 1964. Bob was very involved with Bangor High School Athletics and University of Maine Athletics, where he was an honorary member of the 'M' Club. He worked for Fox and Ginn, the Bangor Hydro Electric Company and after retirement worked for the Penobscot County Sherriff's Department. Bob was a member of Rising Virtue #10 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Anah Temple Shrine, where he was an Ambassador and a charter member of the Mini Bike Unit with his dad and brother, lifetime member of the Bangor-Brewer Shrine Club and Tri-County Shrine Club, the Order of Quetzalcoatl, and Bangor Lodge of Elks #244. Bob is survived by his daughter and son-in law, Jaclyn and Steven Jones; grandson, Ryan; brother Richard Jr and his wife, Sandra, and their children, Andrea Cope and Van Averill; along with many cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jay; and many aunts, uncles and cousins." His wife was Carlene L. (b. 15 June 1942).
