He was born in Machias Oct. 27, 1951, the son of James and Jacqueline (Hawkins) Leighton. Richard owned and operated Leighton's Garage in Steuben for more than 20 years. During that time he was a member of the Maine Towing Association. Most recently he was driving a delivery truck for Inland Seafood Co. of Milbridge. Richard enjoyed watching his son Richard compete in drag racing at Winterport Dragway. He devoted himself to his wife and children, spending time camping traveling and talking with them. Richard is survived by his wife, Marie (Huntley) Leighton of Milbridge; three children, James Leighton, Amy Fickett and Richard Leighton, all of Milbridge; two grandsons, Tyler and Joe Fickett, who were the light of his life; a sister, Jean Leighton of Eddington; a special niece, Stephanie Huntley and her companion, Alfred Haycock; two sisters-in-law, Shelley Huntley and Debbie Huntley and her fiance, Steve Mancinho; two special friends, Billy and Chris Phinney; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was a very likeable guy."
