Cantlin, 11 South Jardin street, succumbed at 12:30 a.m. in Locust Mountain State Hospital. In ill health for some time, he had been a surgical patient at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, prior to his admission to the local hospital. Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna Hurley Cantlin. . Educated in Ihe local public schools, he was a graduate of Shenandoah High School and received his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. After interning at Ashland Hospital, Dr. Cantlin enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War I and held the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of both the VFW and American Legion Kehl Post 370, of town. Dr. Cantlin practiced medicine in Shenandoah for over 40 years and was honored for his outstanding service by the Shenandoah Medical Society in 1932. Active in community affairs, he served as a member of the school board for 16 years and during World War II assisted in the organization of the local Draft Board and served as its medical examiner. A member of the Annunciation Church, he was also affiliated with the Elks Lodge, Fountain Springs Country Club, Knights of Columbus, Shenandoah Medical Society, County MedicaJ Society, Phoeniix Fire Company, Six-County Firemen's Association, Pennsylvania Medical Association and American Medical Association. His survivors include: his wife, Anne Louise (Kearney); two sons, Thomas and Frank; a grandson, a brother, John, at home; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Gallagher, Mahanoy City; three nieces and a nephew."

Thomas Lanier was seventy years old at the time of his second marriage to Frances Carter, widow of William Clanton, Jr.
He was living in Brunswick County, Virginia when Lunenburg County was formed from Brunswick early in 1746 and his land fell in the new county.
He was one of the first Justices, when the first Court assembled May 5, 1746. He moved to Granville County, North Carolina between the purchase of land there October 21, 1761 and the sale of his land in Lunenburg County January 10, 1764.
During the Revolution he took the Oath of Allegiance in the Nut Bush District of Granville County and in 1783 was paid by the Auditors of the Hillsborough District "for sundries furnished, and cash paid the Militia of North and South Carolina and Virginia."
