[13644] "The Kane Republican [Kane, PA], 23 August 1954," p. 1: "Verne Alcorn, former well-known local area oil and gas field driller, was found dead from a heart attack in his automobile on a lease near Evansville, Ind., according to word received here Saturday by his son, Darrell Alcorn, of Moffitt avenue. Mr. Alcorn, who was 50 years old, was in the news here more than a decade ago. When hunting with Russell Welser, of the Greendale road, the pair killed the first of so-called 'wolf pack' which was roaming the Bear Creek area. William Verne Alcorn moved from Kane to Bradford, then to Evansville, Ind. He was employed as a driller at that place and had been in apparent good health. When he failed to return home at night, his wife, Elva, called friends and a search was made. Mr. Alcorn evidently had been stricken with a heart attack in his car near the section he had been working. The body was taken to Hawthorne, Pa., where a prayer service will be held today to be followed by a church service at the Ringgold, Pa., church at 2 p. m. Burial will be in Ringgold cemetery. Besides his wife and son, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Roy Cannon, of Evansville; his mother, Mrs. Jerry Alcorn, of Erie; three brothers, Frank, of Mt. Jewett; Henry, of Ringold, and Roy, of Morrisonville, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Neese, of Princeton, Ind. Two grandchildren also survive. One son, William Harold Alcorn, was electrocuted here in 1942 when a model airplane he was flying with a string release came In contact with a power line in front of their home in west Kane."

[41689] The unverified Sandy Mitchel Family Tree in 2016 in Ancestry.com offers: "Ann Whitley was born on March 22, 1579, in Yorkshire, the child of John Edmund. She married Johannes Mitchell and they had 10 children together . . . . She died on March 22, 1627, in Yorkshire, at the age of 48." [Did she really die on her birthday?]
[9204] John is son of Englehart Wormley and Elisabetha Stein and was baptised shortly after birth according to records of the Lower Bermudian Union Church (which thereby contradicts the place of birth, as Lower Bermudian is in present-day Adams Co.). See "Briner Family History," Myers and Clouse (Harrisburg, PA: 1984), pp. 297-8, 308-11. "The New Bloomfield Times, 18 March 1873," p. 5: "John Wormley died at the house of his son-in-law, Eward Hull, at Centre, Perry Co., Pa., on Sabbath morning March 2d, 1873. Father Wormley had readied the advanced age of 88 years, 8 months and 2 days. Though his physical strength had been for some time impaired, to such an extent, as to confine him to his room and bed, he enjoyed to the last, an almost perfect use and exercise of his natural senses and mental faculties. He was in more respects than one, an interesting man. His memory ranged backward, with remarkable distinctness, over a period of full eighty years. He, near which place he was born, remembered when Harrisburg was a mere village. He was a lad when the Republic came into being, and grown half-way to manhood when the nineteenth century had its birth. He might have borne arms in Napoleon's campaign to Moscow; and was a man of middle ago, when that bloody hero died on 8t. Helena. During his life time many of the greatest events of all ages occurred. Between the day of his birth to his death, the sun walked through the heavens some thirty-two thousand two hundred times; he saw twenty-three Leap-years; he saw four thousand, five hundred and eighty-nine Sabbath days. Whist he lived some 300,000,000 beings were born into the world; and about an equal number died. What a company he has gone to meet! But of all that company, how few, comparatively, had lived as he lived ; bad died as be died. His life was one of quiet usefulness; his death was full of peace. He fell asleep as a weary child on its mother's breast might fall asleep, thinking of the joy of the morrow. We laid his body down to its quiet sleep at Loysville, on Tuesday; Rev. McPherson or the Presbyterian church, delivered the funeral oration - an impressive discourse, based on the text "Your fathers, where are they? Father Wormley's companion had preceeded him to the "Long Home," by some three years. Of seven children, three had also been called away, four are left to mourn his departure. Having embraced the Christian Religion in early life, he walked by the rule of the Gospel, a member of the Lutheran Church, and died in hope of a blessed immortality."
