"The News [Newport, PA], 26 June 1913," p. 1: "John Arnold, son of the late William and Sarah Arnold of Juniata township aged about 52 years, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lloyd Smith, near Markelville on Tuesday at 8 p. m., of cerebral hemorrhage. He had been east a year ago on account of ill health, but had returned, and again came to this county, two months ago, in ill health. He is survived by his wife (nee Annie Shoaff of Elliottsburg, his sisters, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. David Gessner, Mrs. Frances Shade and Mrs. George Kinzer of near Markelville, and Mrs. John Kennedy of Lucknow, his brothers, George Arnold of Loysville, Harry of Chicago and Frank Arnold, of Sask., Canada, and his mother who resides with her daughter, Mrs. Gessner on the Arnold homestead. Funeral services will be held at the Smith home, tomorrow at 10 a. m., conducted by Rev. J. M. Runkle of this place, with interment in Newport cemetery."
