[38968] Find A Grave Memorial 101220873 offers: "She was born and died in Kürnbach, Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, according to records at the Kürnbach Evangelical Lutheran Church. She undoubtedly was buried in or near Kürnbach. Her grave site has not been found. At one time there was a cemetery attached to the church. However the cemetery was removed and the area terraced long ago. Today the cemetery is on the edge of the village. Burial customs in Germany are considerably different than in the United States. Grave sites in Germany are rented, typically for 20 years and are then reused. Therefore, it is unlikely that her grave site will ever be located. Because of German naming customs in use at the time, she would have been known as Maria Arnold or Maria Gern after her marriage." Ancestry.com offers: "Arnold Name Meaning - English and German: from a very widely used personal name of Germanic origin, composed of the elements arn 'eagle' + wald 'rule'. In addition, it has probably absorbed various European cognates and their derivatives (for the forms, see Hanks and Hodges 1988). English: habitational name from either of the two places called Arnold (see Arnall)."
[2597] A "G. Michael Breiner" arrived on the Ship Rowley from Rotterdam at Philadelphia (he is listed then as age 20), and qualified at the Philadelphia Court House 23 Oct 1752 - - see "Pennsylvania German Pioneers...," Ralph Beaver Srassburger (Camden, ME: Picton Press, 1992), I:499. There are Briner/Bryner families listed in "Swiss Colonists in 19th Century America," compiled by Dr. Adelrich Steinach (Rockport, ME: Picton Press, 1995 - updated from 1889 edition) - AEM has not consulted this volume. Our George Michael Breiner settled in Albany Twp. - the Albany Twp. Historical Society may be reached (1999) via email at albanyhis@enter.net. He is listed in the Northampton County (from which Lehigh County was taken) tax roll of 1772 as a farmer whose tax was 1.12.0 (PA Archives, Series 3, Vol. 19, p. 57). AEM's supplemental line as a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR 73197) proves descent from him and shows his service in the War for Independence; for example, he was at the battle of Stony Point (http://www2.lhric.org/spbattle/walk.htm and "Military History Quarterly: The Quarterly Journal of Military History", Fall 2003). For insight into what service in the War for Independence was like for George Michael Breiner, see "A People's History of the American Revolution," Ray Raphael (New York: The New Press, 2001 - ISBN 0-06-000440-1), Chapters 1 & 2. Ancestry.com suggests the meaning of the surname: "German (also well established in Sweden and Denmark): occupational name for a cereal grower, from a derivative of Middle High German brie porridge, mush." For insight into the Pennsylvania-Germans see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsylvania_Dutch.

[45917] Find A Grave memorial 129747274 lists his wife and children and offers: "Adam is named as the son of Andrew Ritzman, Sr. and the father of Andrew Ritzman, Jr., whose biography appeared in the following publication: The Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphin county, PA, by Runk & Co., 1896, page 1084. In this biography sketch all of Adam's children are named and some of their spouses. According to a published book on the Tombstone Inscriptions of Wirth's Cem., dated 1968, by Johnathan Wert, Adam is buried there, alongside his wife Mary. However, he is also listed as being interred in Zion Lutheran and Reformed Church, located in Rife, PA, also alongside his wife Mary. Both cemetery inscribed tombstone listings have Adam's birth correct: (9-15-1802). However, in Wirth's listing Adam's burial date is 9-11-1873, while at Zion it's 9-11-1885, a 12 year's difference."
