He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Ellsworth the son of Raymond F. and Viola M. (Eichman) Sargent. Roger was a 1945 graduate of Ellsworth High School. He went to the University of Maine at Orono and graduated with a BA in civil engineering in 1949. After graduating from high school, Roger married Jeannine Tracy on Sept. 1, 1945. They made their home in Ellsworth. They have been lifelong members of the Ellsworth Congregational Church. Roger worked for the Maine DOT for 40 years. He started out as a resident engineer for road construction and in his final years with the state was the Division 2 engineer for Hancock and Washington counties. Roger was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time with this family at his camp at Narraguagus River and summers at Beech Hill Pond. He loved flying and owned his own plane and loved taking his friends for rides. He was a member of the Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol Club and won the Maine State Pistol Championship in 1959. Roger was a member of Lygonia Masonic Lodge #40 A.F. & A.M., of Ellsworth. Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Jeannine M. (Tracy) Sargent; three sons, Stephen Sargent and partner Emilie Jones of Surry; Mark Sargent and wife Pamela of Otis; and Paul Sargent and wife, Suzanne, of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Benjamin Sargent and girlfriend Danielle Harriman; Jonethan Moore and wife, Susan; and Mica Sargent and fiancée Tracey Trundy; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Andrew and William Sargent; Jessica and Abigail Sargent; and Samantha Moore; great-granddaughter-in-law, Lucinda Sargent; a brother, Edward Sargent and wife, Rosemary; two sisters, Lillian S. Katsiaficas and Ellen S. Kroot; and brother-in-law, Carl Magoon; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by an infant son, Bruce; a sister, Rachel S. Magoon; two grandsons, Jason R. Sargent and Douglas R. Sargent; brothers-in-law, Charles Katsiaficas and John Kroot; several cousins, nieces and nephews."
