(II) Captain John, son of Edmund Littlefield, was born about 1625-30. He took the oath of allegiance in 1680 and lived in Wells. He had a grant of land with his brother-in-law John Wakefield in 1641 from John Cleaves at the mouth of the Mousam River, where he made his home. He deeded to Francis Littlefield Sr., his brother, half the timber and mill at Ogunquit Upper Falls, December 23, 1669; also land to Josiah Littlefield, August 8, 1690. He died in Wells, February 9, 1696-97, and his widow Patience administered the estate. He was called "Sen." in 1669 and afterward. Children, born at Wells: 1. John, eldest son, married Mehitable ___________; died 1690. 2. Josiah, married Lydia _________ and Elisabeth ________. 3. Eliab, mentioned below. 4. (III) Eliab, son of John Littlefield, was born about 1660-1670. He settled in Manchester, Massachusetts, probably on account of the Indian wars. He inherited much property at Wells. He deeded, November 6, 1712, land grant of two hundred acres for building a mill at the falls and the remains of the mill which had been burned to John Cousins. Jonathan Hammon, Samuel Wheelwright and John Bullard were his partners in the mill grant and ownership. He sold land at Wells to Zachariah Goodale, of Wells, June 15, 1715; also land formerly owned by John Wells (his father) to George Jacobs, of York, January 18, 1715-16; also the land on the northeast side of Cape Porpoise known as Barrot's farm on Millers creek, December 26, 1715, to Thomas Perkins of Topsfield, Massachusetts; also land formerly owned by Henry Scratts, to whom it was granted March 28, 1699, to Willaim Sayer, of Wells, January 19, 1715. Administration granted son-in-law Joseph Leach, of Manchester, April 16, 1717, and the estate was divided December, 1718. Children, the first five of whom were born at Wells: 1. Eliab, born October 23, 1697, mentioned below. 2. Patience, August 17, 1699, married Joseph Leach. 3. Rachel, January 31, 1700-01, died at Wells, January 3, 1701-02. 4. Deborah, April 25, 1702. 5. [6392] James and his brother Thomas set up their logging operation at Williams Pond, ten miles from their father, in 1839. See account in Baker, George W. and Marjorie L., "Munsungun to the Sea" (N.Y.: Vantage Press, 1972), chapter 3. Williams Pond is now called Brandy Pond. James and Lucinda had nine children. The July 1860 census of Great Pond, ME lists James' place of birth as Maine and gives his household including five day laborers , a female boarder and a domestic - his own family is James (45, farmer), Lucinda (44), John (19), Edgar (18), Malisa (17), Ruth A. (15), Frank (11), Willy H. (9) and Ezra N. (4).

[37485] This person is from the unverified Meckel Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. In 2014 http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Winch-97 offers: "Samuel was born about late 1640's. Unknown at this time who his parents were, or where he was born. Some genealogy sites say that his father's name was John Winch from England. Some sites say that his mother was Elizabeth Dillingham, Others say Elizabeth Boothby. I tend to believe that the original spelling for his last name was Winche. His father's name may have been John because he named his firstborn son John, who died young, and later named another son John. There must have been a good reason why he wanted the name in the family line. In 'The New England Historical and Genealogical Register ' 1884 Vol. #38, pg 203 - The will of a Nathaniel Hawthorne (died1652) mentions his nephew John Winch and his wife Ann (possibly Samuel's father and mother). And John Winche his 'loving Kinsman'. A haberdasher from London to be executor of his will (possibly Samuel's Grandfather). Note Nathaniel had a sister named Elizabeth. One clue that I am hoping helps identify where he was born, and who his parents were was a Mary Winch (Winche). She came to America aboard the Francis of Ipswich in April 1634, landing at Plymouth. She was 15 and listed as a servant of the Rowland Stebbins family. She married Richard Everett in 1636. She MAY have been related to Samuel - possibly an Aunt. Her husband was well to do, and MAY have helped other members of her family to come to America. Also a note in 'The History of Framingham' says 'The Winches came from Reading.' Which is not far from where Mary landed. There were also Hawthorne in the vicinity. The earliest mention on Samuel was that in 1671 he occupied land 'out of the south bounds of Sudbury Ma. This area would later become Framingham. Around 1670 he purchased 8 acres of land from Samuel How. Also a note in 'The History of Framingham' says 'The Winches came from Reading Ma.', a town about 10 miles west of Boston. Samuel was christened into the church in Sudbury on Feb. 11, 1672, the same day that he married Hannah Gibbs. They had 7 children. John 1674 (died young), Samuel 1677, John 1679, David 1684, Hannah 1687, Silence 1690, Thomas 1694, Hannah died in 1695. Samuel remarried Sarah Upham Barnard Jan. 11, 1697. During the King Philips War ( an Indian war) 1675- 1676. Samuel was in the Ma. Militia. In 1683 Samuel purchased 56 acres at Wolf Swamp, near the Frost Place. Around 1693 Samuel leased 300 acres of land along with Thomas Frost from Mr. Danforth, located on Doeskin Hill. Samuel was active in Framingham becoming a town in 1700. He was active in the town and his church. and held a number of elected positions. Samuel died Aug. 8 , 1718 in Framingham. According to Rev. Swift's Journal he died of cancer."
