[3964] "In 870 when the land was divided between Charles the Bald and Ludwig the German, Ludwig received Limburg, and it was ruled by several counts of which it is certain that Walram I was mentioned in 1060. He built the castle Limburg. His son Henry also became Duke of Lower Lorraine and Margrave of Antwerp. But since he refused to swear allegiance to Emperor Henry V, he lost his new honors again in 1106 and only kept his County. He died in 1118. His follower, Walram II, received Lower-Lorraine and Antwerp, in 1129 the protective jurisdiction of Duisburg, and died 1139. His son Henry II (1139-67) was not Duke of Lower-Lorraine, but kept his title after extending his possessions with the county of Arlon, which had been in his brother's possession, and a large possession in the Ardennes." - Meyer's "Conversations Lexicon" (pub. in Germany, 1890).
