Forrest graduated in 1927 from The University of Akron (serving as President of its alumni at least one term), and entered the real estate business with his father, concentrating on appraisal.
He was active in politics (Democratic Party convention delegate Clarence Motz of Akron was pledged to him as party nominee for President one year), was President of the Young Men's Democratic Club in Summit County, Secretary of the Summit County Democratic Party, and often mentioned as a candidate for Mayor by younger party men. He was Potentate of Tadmor Temple, helped organize and served in the housing authority (a member of the initial Municipal Housing Authority board in 1939), and made many other civic contributions to Akron. As a long-time member of the metropolitan park board, he worked hard to expand the park system. He was an avid sportsman (fisherman and hunter of deer, moose, and water fowl). He was youngest president of the Akron Area Board of Realtors (1938) and one of five founding members of (and President of) the Akron Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.
