[18390] "Lykens Register [Lykens, PA], 26 December 1902," p. 1: "Harry Matter, son of Beneviile and Franica Matter, was found dead at his home near the paper mill, on Saturday afternoon. He occupied a two room house, built according to his own plans, and it was there that he was found lying on the floor dead by Isaac Grell. As soon as he made the discovery he summoned J. R. Fisher and J. A. Kull, who were at the paper mill. They went to the house, and looked, and found the statement true. His death was due to suffocation, caused by asthma, from which he suffered for many years. Deceased was born near Elizabethville on January 16, 1846, and was baptized on March 1, 1846, by Rev. Hemping. His age was 56 years, 1 1 months and 4 days. The death of Harry Matter removes a familiar and picturesque figure from Lykens. He was known by every man, woman and child in the town. He was a 'jack of all trades,' and whenever help in any line of business was needed Harry was sent for. The body was removed to the home of Otto Long, a brother-in-law of the deceased, where the funeral was held on Monday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J. R. Groff, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church."
