[55484] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 13 September 1919, p. 15: "Captain Henry Partridge Conner, who had followed the sea for 48 years, died Tuesday at his home No. 259 North Seventh street, Newark, N. J., at the age of 81 years. During the Civil war he served aa ensign, master and lieutenant. At the time of hla retirement 20 years ago he was in the employ of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. He was a life member of the New York Marine Society. Captain Conner waa born in Orland, Me., and came from a seafaring family. At 14 he was an ordinary seeman and soon rose to the position of first officer. He volunteered for service in the Civil war and was placed in charge of the Fourth Battery on the celebrated Ironsides during the attack on Fort Fisher. He opened the attack by firing the ship's 11-inch gun, known as No. 8. For his services in that engagement he was made lieutenant. Upon his discharge in 1865 he entered the service of the Pacific Mail Steamship Co. as first officer and was advanced to captain in 1867. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Amelia E. Seymour of Troy, N.Y."

The 1920 federal census of Gratz, Dauphin Co., PA lists head of houshold Alice Stiely, age 50, with daughters Flossie (16), Carrie (14) and Elvira (9). The unverified Christy Deiter Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2016 offers: "When Carrie Blanche Stiely was born on July 17, 1905, in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, her father, Donald, was 40 and her mother, Alice, was 36. She married Elmer Jacob Shade on March 18, 1922, in Elizabethville, Pennsylvania. . . . She died on November 18, 1998, in Gratz, Pennsylvania, at the age of 93, and was buried there."
