[11307] Charles was also Charles IV, King of the Two Sicilies (1734-59). He became Duke of Parma in 1731 and conquered the kingdom of the Two Sicilies. In Spain he curbed the Inquisition and expelled the Jesuits. His friendship with France and hosility toward Great Britain led to alliance supporting the American War for Independence. He erected the Prado Museum and the Palacio Real in Madrid and La Granja in Segovia. The genealogical chart at http://www.friesian.com/perifran.htm indicates that he is son of Charles III and his second wife, Elizabeth Farnese, and therefore a brother of Maria Theresa, wife of Louis of France (who d. 1712; parents of King Louis XVI of France).
