[16309] Johann obtained 30 July 1741 a patent from John Thomas and Richard Penn for 78 acres. R. Mill Creek, Lebanon Co., PA Naturalized at Philadelphia in sept, 1744. Sold farm of 246 acres 11 May 1762 to Yost Hoffman for 1200 L. Then r. Shaefferstown until after wife died, moving to Reading where sons Michael and Peter lived. Will dated 1789. Originally buried at German Reformed Church in Reading, but remains moved to Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading and grave not marked. "Rhineland Emigrants," Don Yoder, Ed. (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1981), p. 4: "The widow of Johann Brecht of Schriesheim was permitted to go to Pennsylvania in 1726 with her two sons Stephan and Johann Brecht. ...Johan Michael Brecht, born May 30, 1706, at Schriesheim, married April 1728, in Heidelberg Township, Lancaster (now Lebanon) County. Johann Michael settled in Germantown in October, 1726, then came to the headwaters of the Millbach, Lebanon Valley, near what is now Schaefferstown. He moved to Reading in 1782, where his sons Michael and Peter were living. His son Michael Brecht (1732-1814) was County Commissioner of Berks County, 1774-1775, and Member of the Committee of Observation for Berks County, during the Revolution." An attached file states "He was living Germantown, near Philadelphia and enlisted in Sept 1777 and served four months as a private in a company commanded by Captain Jacob Bishop. He moved to Maryland, near Hagerstown, and re-enlisted in a company commanded by Edward Solomon and served 2 months. Again in 1781 he enliseted for 2 months in a company commanded by Captain William Miller. This military information is obtained from the records of the pension office in Washington, which shows that on June 10, 1833 he was allowed a pension for service in the army."
