"Bangor Daily News [Bangor, ME], 18 August 2021": " - Berniece Ella 'Bunny' Gordon, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Seaport Village Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Maine. She was born in Springfield, Maine on August 18, 1933, the daughter of Robert Leander and Flossie Anna (Staples) Dill.
A loving, devoted wife and mother, she is survived by five sons and their families: Gerry and Gail Dill of Ellsworth, Ron and Debbie Gordon of Veazie, Durward Richard 'Dick' Jr. and Denise Gordon of Scarborough, Scott and Laurie Gordon of Old Town; David and Latisha 'Tish' Gordon of Cohutta, GA; grandchildren, Amy Carlisle and husband, Doug, Cathy Coates and husband, Seth, Eric Gordon, Erin Gordon, Nicholas Gordon, Nathan Gordon and Nicole Matson, Whitney Miller, Arianna Gordon, Spencer Gordon, Mason Maddox, Kailey Maddox, and Anna-Kate Gordon; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Durward R. Gordon Sr., and was the last surviving member of a family of 16 children, including brothers, Chandler, Merle, Dean, Vinal, George, Roger and Robert Jr.; and sisters, Pauline, Irene, June, Thelma, Marion, Theo, Ruby, and Judy. Bunny was a waitress at the famous Rose Bowl restaurant in Lincoln - a job that involved long hours and hard labor. It was there she met her husband, Durward, sharing in 45 years of marriage. She was also a homemaker - a full-time job raising five boys. She would admit that having all five of her boys together at a family gathering was one of her greatest joys. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior on Easter Sunday in 2005, and was baptized in Ellsworth by her oldest son, Gerry. Bunny was a fun-loving, spirited and witty soul, who loved to spend time with ones closest to her, especially when it involved the entire family. She loved family reunions, which would be held once a year and involved most of not all her immediate family, brothers and sisters. She also loved to travel later and got to visit several special places. She loved listening to country music. She had learned well enough to play along to her favorite songs from George Jones, Ricky Skaggs and Loretta Lynn. She had the pleasure of standing on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN, where those legends once stood. She also made a very special trip to California to visit her dear sister, Ruby, accompanied by two of her nieces. She was thrilled to take such an adventure. In addition, because raising five boys included various sports activities, she grew to love going to and watching baseball games, especially her beloved Red Sox, a team she followed often. She will be fondly remembered for her sense of humor, laughter, and her quick wit, while being dearly loved by all who knew her."
