[27091] "The Vermillion Times, 8 April 1920," p 1: "George Washington Tate was born in Warren county, Illinois, December 30, 1868, and died at Vermillion, Kansas, April 1, 1920, aged 61 years, 3 months and 1 day. When nine vears of age, he went with his parents to Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Luella Ray. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom, with their mother, survive him. They are Mrs. Daisy Pry of Raymond, Minn., Manley Tate of Sykeston, N. D., Mrs. Pearl Yoder of Vermillion, Mrs. Jessie Hale of Centralia, Kans., Viana, Barbara and Zelda at home. Mr. Tate and family came to Vermillion some thirty years ago and have resided here ever since with the exception of a couple of years spent in North Dakota. He was a good citizen who was well and favorably known. He with his wife united with the Christian church at Vermillion about twenty-four years ago."
