[50675] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maime]. 12 May 2022": "Milbridge - Daniel Robert Handy Sr. passed away peacefully on May 7, 2022, surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born September 11, 1944, to Dorothy Gray and Daniel P. Handy of Addison. His father was killed in action when he was only four days old during World War II in the battle of the bulge in Normandy, France. Daniel was raised by his beloved grandparents, Florence and Maynard Gray of Addison. After attending school, he joined the Navy in 1963 and spent over twenty years in service. He did two tours of Vietnam and received a Commendation for his service while there. He spent most of his time in the Navy as a signalman on destroyers. His favorite being the USS Nitro. He was happy to attend a reunion a few years ago. He worked various jobs after retirement from the Navy, with the last being a sternman with his brother-in-law, Ordman Alley on his boat, the 'Donna Faye.' Daniel was predeceased by his parents, maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, Agnes and Ernest Handy; his brother, Donald; two brothers-in-law, Ordman Alley Sr. and Tom Sawyer; aunts and uncles, Margaret and Chester Lenfesty, Beatrice Huntley and Phillip Huntley, Wade Sawyer; and two very special uncles, Ralph Gray, and Francis Handy. Also, by his longtime companion, Donna M. Alley, and his two stepfathers, James Alley, and Morrill Alley. He is survived by his children, Jane Handy and Dawn Handy, both of Hancock, Daniel Handy Jr. and his fiancee, Stephanie Bosse, of Harrington, Betsey Knowles and husband, Leslie Knowles, of Franklin, and Donna's daughter, Phena Alley of New York; grandchildren, Kyle Knowles and wife, Courtney, of Sullivan, Chad Knowles of Franklin, Robert Handy and wife, Kelsey, of Jonesport, Carlie Blanco Handy of Hancock, Sophie Stoddard of Harrington, and Kaylee Bosse of Poland, Maine; great-grandchildren, Emmett and Reagan Knowles of Sullivan, and Daniel and Delani Handy of Jonesport; sisters, Donna Faye Alley of Jonesport, Gail and husband, Dave Fickett, of Harrington, Kathy Doyle and husband, Richard, of Ellsworth, and Karen Albert Sawyer of Ellsworth; brothers, Gary Alley and companion, Sharon Macauley, a sister-in-law, Judy Handy, all of Addison; and brother, Larry Alley and companion, Adele, of Hermon; a very special aunt and uncle, Norma and Lew Milam of Maine and Florida; aunt, Joanne Richards of Florida; and aunt Norma Lydick of Bucksport; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a very special grandniece, Elyssa Eldridge, who he always called "Trouble." He also leaves friends, Frances Alley of Steuben, Bobby Farnsworth of Addison, Warren Peabody of Beals, Morris and Diane Alley and their families, and Raymond and Terri Alley and family."

Barker, 67, wife of former Sheriff Jared Barker and mother of Mrs. Bessie Hawkins, prominent clubwoman, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Schwinn, 377 Jullen ave. Mrs. Barker had been in failing health since last June when she suffered a stroke. Short services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Schwinn residence followed by funeral services at 2 o'clock at Ghent Disciple church with Rev. George W. Knepper officiating. Burial will be at Bath. Mrs. Barker had been a member of the Ghent church for the last 40 years. Mrs. Barker who was the former Almira Myers of Rome City, Ind, came to Summit county as a bride in 1883. She and Mr. Barker went to housekeeping at Ghent and lived there until 1903 when the latter was elected to the office of sheriff, at which time they took up their residence in Akron. Later Mr. Barkey was named a county commissioner and the couple remained here until last September when they returned to Ghent. Mrs. Barker was a member of the Women's Benefit association, Order of Eastern Star and the Fifty-Year club. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Schwinn, Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Pearl Halderman, and five grandchildren."
