[55814] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 19 February 2024: "Caribou - Paul Robert Hutchins, 68, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, of complications from congestive heart failure, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Caribou, Maine. He was born June 3, 1955, in Bangor, the son of Leonard W. Jr. and Phyllis A. (Schwartz) Hutchins. Paul enjoyed the best of his early years growing up in Oxbow where his family owned the Oxbow Lodge. He was a graduate of Ashland Community High School, class of 1974, and Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Presque Isle. Paul joined the U.S. Navy in 1977 and served five years onboard the USS Forrestal out of Mayport, Florida, obtaining the rate of Petty Officer Third Class. Paul was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his siblings, Peter (Suzanne) Hutchins of West Enfield, Dottie (Mike Lavoie) Hutchins of Presque Isle, and Susan (Dan Robertson) Michaud of Stockholm. Paul is survived by three nephews and their families, Benjamin Hutchins of Millinocket; Michael (Courtney) Michaud and their two boys, Mark and Carter, all of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Alan (Sarah) Michaud and their two girls, Cheyenne and Anastasia, all of Ramona, California. Paul is also survived by his aunt, Jane (Zelle) Hutchins; many beloved cousins; and several special people who befriended him throughout his lifetime. Besides 'seeing the world' while serving onboard an aircraft carrier for the U.S. Navy, Paul was most proud of being a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. On October 4, 2005, after three years of dedication and hard work, Paul lost a total of 151.8 pounds to reach his goal weight and earn lifetime membership. He loved remaining an 'ambassador' and telling his story to others just entering or struggling in the program. Paul's family thanks the staff of the Maine Veterans' Home in Caribou for not only caring for Paul as a resident, but for genuinely caring about Paul as a person. It will always be appreciated that Paul was able to spend his final hours where he was most comfortable. The family also extends gratitude to the team at Cary Medical Center who went above and beyond on many occasions during Paul's last year, especially the last few weeks. A celebration of Paul's life and graveside service will take place in Oxbow in the spring."
