He was the first town clerk of Bridgewater, and served in that role from 1656 to 1681. Born in Somersetshire England. He became in 1651 an Original Proprietor and Honored Settler in this River. The Clerk of the Plantation. When the town of Bridgewater was Incorporated in 1656He was Elected Constable, the first and only Officer of That year. Town Clerk until his death in 1681. Tradition says He was the first Teacher of Latin in Plymouth Colony."

The town is SW of Orleans in the department of Loiret "at the foot of vine-clad hills on the right bank of the Loire, crossed by a bridge of 26 arches dating in part from the 13th century.
