She was born September 19, 1911, in Grant, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Jesse Paullin. She attended Simpson College and graduated from the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She lived in Racine from 1935 until 1966 and 1985 until present. She taught 14 years in Racine schools (Hansche, Washington Junior High, and Starbuck) and was active in the Racine Theater Guild, Children's Theater, Junior League, AAUW, and the Racine Literacy Council. She also was choir director for Grange Avenue Methodist Church. From 1966 until 1985, she and her husband lived in McMinnville, Tenn., Tampa, Fla., and Elcho, Wis. Lona is survived by her sons, Jim (Cherry) of Racine and Jon (Dorothy) of Columbia, SC.; and grandchildren, Andrew, Peter, Sara, and Matt. She was predeceased in 1985 by her husband and best friend, Harry L. Wardrip; and by her sister, Mary Boese."
