Garlin, 81, of Perlo Ridge Apartments, Loysville, and Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, in Carlisle Hospital. Bom Feb. 4, 1915, in Blain RR1, she was a daughter of the late Harry J. and Myrtle Hockenberry Briner and was the widow of George E. Garlin. She was retired from P.R. Hoffman's Crystal Plant and was a former employee of Carlisle Tire and Rubber, both of Carlisle. Mrs. Garlin was a member of Tressler Memorial Church of Loysville, the Chattanooga Club, DAV Ladies Auxiliary of Mechanicsburg, Blain Senior Citizens Center and the Landisburg Ambulance Club. Surviving are one son, George J. Garlin of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Sara A. Rice of Loysville and Darlene S. Darr of Carlisle; two brothers, David R. Briner of New Germantown and Miles G. Briner of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace M. Valentine and Ruth M. Gutshall, and two brothers, Dale E. and John H. Briner."

She was a very able ruler and acted forcefully in the interests of her sons. She funded various convents and also played a part in the politics of the Holy Roman Empire, trough her half-brother, Emperor Lothar III - the son of her mother in her first marriage. 1133 she withdrew to the Convent of Rheinsburg, which she had funded herself.
