Bickmore, age 84 of Dover, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday August 30th at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center. He was born on February 17, 1926 in East Corinth, ME the son of George W. and Nellie (Mayo) Bickmore. Arthur was raised and educated in East Corinth. Arthur left school to serve his country during WWII in the Army Air corps. After the war, he returned to school and had graduated from East Corinth Academy Class of 1947. He had received a degree in electrical engineering from the Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, IN. During his career, Arthur was a key engineer on the Pershing Rocket and the early Apollo Space Program. He retired from Lockheed Martin at the age of 72. Arthur was a colorful storyteller who enjoyed expounding on the 'little details'. He loved vacationing on the Maine Coast. He was very proud of his yard, he would spend hours puttering around and tending to his gardens and rosebushes. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and playing bridge at the Raymond, NH Senior Center. Arthur had mastered the accordion and at the age of 81, he began taking organ lessons. Arthur was an avid bird watcher, and was frustrated at having never perfected the 'squirrel proof' bird feeder. He did however; achieve the 'perfect martini'. Arthur is survived by his wife of 31 years, Grace Bickmore of Dover. Brother Robert Bickmore and his wife Edna of Wilmington, MA. Daughters; Gaye Erskine and her husband Richard of Solon, ME and Katie Carter and her husband Ronald of Jackson, ME and Son, Gerald Bickmore of Belfast, ME. Stepchildren: Richard Schaitel of Londonderry, NH, Mark Schaitel and his wife Kathleen of Moosup, CT, William Schaitel of Chester, NH, Eric Schaitel of Lynn, MA, Kurt Schaitel of Nashua, NH and Kristin Sheehan of Cape Coral, FL. Sixteen Grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many special friends also survive him."
