See "The History and Antiquities of Harewood," John Jones (London: Marshall & Co., 1854; used at Bodleian Library, Oxford, England, 1987); this book gives much information and repeats the story that the Gascoigne family "derive themselves from one Ailrichus, a Saxon, who was banished by the Conqueror". Cf. chart, "Pedigree of Gascoigne of Gawthorpe and Parlington" in "Pedigrees of the County Families of Yorkshire," Vol.1, by Joseph Foster (London: 1874). Also cf. http://www.gascoynefamilytree.co.uk/gascoigneb1250.aspx which in2016 offers: "William was born in 1250 at Harewood, Yorkshire. His parents were William Gascigne and Matilda (Jane) Gawkethorpe. In 1292 he married Elizabeth De Bolton at Harewood Yorkshire. Elizabeth De Bolton, daughter of William De Bolton of Aldwark.
William Gascoigne of Kirkby sup. Wharf, co York was a merchant He was in the reign of Edward 1 plaintiff in a plea of account against John Kyme of Waynflete, merchant. He married Elizabeth Bolton, daughter of William de Bolton, of Aldwark. He also purchased lands in Harewood and elsewhere in Yorkshire. There is also a village near Tadcaster called Kirkby Wharfe, but this appears to tie in with the later generations of Gascoignes at Lasingcroft, Parlington and Barnbow."
