[54844] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 1 October 2019: "Ellsworth - Verna I. Chick, 79, passed away Sept. 25, 2019. Verna was born Nov. 6, 1939, in Great Pond, to Linwood and Ethel MacDonald Chick. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up in Great Pond. She is survived by her son Bruce and his wife, Lorna, her grandsons Johnathan and Ethan and a great-grandson, Justin. There are numerous nieces and nephews and their children who called her Nana because Verna helped take care of and raised them like they were her own. Verna did many things in life but was most known for her many years as a certified nursing assistant. She started her career at Barnard Nursing Home and then Agape House (Birchwood Living Center). Verna ended her career there upon her retirement. She loved working with people with intellectual disabilities and after retirement remained as a member of the Human Rights Committee for many years. Verna enjoyed going out dancing, calling bingo at the Brewer Eagles Club, playing bingo, her pets, visiting her family and traveling. She lived her last few years at Courtland Living Center, where she spent lots of time doing puzzles. Verna was a down-to-earth, elegant lady."
