Later he became the proprietor of an inn. John lived near the southern end of Silver Lake, where his father, Stephen, also had lived. John was road surveyor at Plymouth in 1681, and constable in 1683/84 and 1691 He signed a will on 22 Nov 1728, and the will was probated on 5 Apr 1736 They were buried in the Old Cemetery At The Green, and a stone still stands today for each of them."

[658] Variant of the surname is Wardell at the time of Thomas' emigration. He arrived at Boston, MA in 1633. He then moved to Exeter, NH in 1638 because of a religious controversy in First Church, Boston. He was a founder of the the church at the falls of the Piscataqua in Jan. 1639. He was judge of small cases at Exeter in 1643. In the spring of 1641 the Exeter militia elected Thomas their sergeant.
