[52921] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 14 February 2023: "Lubec - Ralph Kinney, 62, passed away peacefully at his home in Lubec on February 11, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. Ralph was born in Lubec, Maine on August 31, 1960, to the late Arthur and Barbara (McConnell) Kinney. Ralph was predeceased by his parents; brother, Billy Kinney; and son, Richard Zurick. He is survived by his loving wife, Rose, who came along near the end of his life and won Ralph's heart quickly and completely. Ralph also leaves behind his children, Nicole Dudley and husband, Jon, Brandon Ashby and his partner, Shaina Frasier and Judd Kinney and his partner, Katharine Faye; stepchildren, Joshua Bouchard and Warren II and Jessica Carter; grandchildren, Shawn and Corbin Snyder, Orianna Gillison, Zeke and Declan Dudley, Ash and Leelu Zurick and Bex and Evalina Ashby; step-grandchildren and the partners of his grandchildren. Ralph leaves behind one great-grandson, Elias Snyder. He is survived by his siblings, Joni Rodgers, Obbie Kinney and his partner, Sue Miller; his nephews, Aaron Rodgers and Arthur, Obbie Jr. and Shawn Kinney. Ralph had many good friends, but some were more like family, including Dwayne Rideout, Shawn Tinker and Derick Fitzsimmons. He will be missed by many, including people he supported in recovery, his employees aka 'the guys,' loyal customers, friends, family and his cat Gracie. Ralph lived such a full, exciting life, with enough stories, experiences and interests to fill a book. He was charismatic, outgoing, friendly, quick witted, brutally honest and loyal. Ralph took pride in getting complete strangers to laugh or smile and made a lasting impression on everyone he met. Ralph had numerous jobs in his lifetime. He raked blueberries, painted, dove for urchins and scallops and was a woodsman. After getting clean and sober, and learning the painting trade, Ralph started Kinney and Sons. Lubec residents, business owners and people from away gave the company a chance. Ralph and his crew worked hard for close to 20 years, to earn and maintain a reputation as a dependable, trustworthy company that consistently does excellent, quality work. He was dedicated to the business to the end, even talking to the guys and customers on his way to and from surgeries, treatments and appointments. Ralph put just as much heart into his hobbies as his work. He couldn't wait for snow to start so he could travel hundreds of miles a weekend with Dwayne, Bret and other friends on the fastest sled he could get. Ralph loved bow hunting for deer, bear and turkey. He spent days on hunting trips with Derick and many hours tending bear bait that was definitely always set up legally. He had the opportunity of a lifetime when his name was drawn for a moose license last year and he shot his first moose. Ralph enjoyed fishing on rivers and lakes with his good friend, Shawn, where they usually competed for the biggest fish and told fish stories when they returned. Ralph also regularly took his family on his boat in the ocean, where he taught his kids and grandkids to fish, showed them their first whales, seals and porpoises, helped them drive the boat, watched fireworks and competed in catching the most fish. Those trips usually led to a stop in Eastport for lunch, fries at Rosie's and ice cream for the grandkids, regardless of how much lunch they ate. Ralph loved his family fiercely and was especially proud of his kids, grandkids and great-grandson. He was well known in the recovery community and poured into people who were struggling with addiction, willing to help anyone however he could. He enjoyed providing work to guys from the Arise Addiction Recovery program. Ralph expressed appreciation for the long life he had been given and all he had been able to fit into it. He spoke of his faith and credited God for the peace and strength he experienced through his battle with cancer."

[5703] Alexander II reigned 1214-49; joined the barons against King John but reconcilled with him and married his daughter. He died trying to secure for Scotland the Western Isles (which owed their allegiance to the King of Norway). He also had a "natural daughter", Marjory, m Alan Durward, the Justiciary, whose grandson, Nicolas de Soulis, was one of the competitors for the Crown of Scotland. Alexander was the only son of William the Lion and succeeded his father to the throne at the age of sixteen. He was crowned at Scone on 6 December 1214, two days after the death of William. Alexander II is the only reigning Scottish monarch known to have taken a military force down to England's south coast, when he marched south to aid English rebels against King John of England. After the death of King John, ties between England and Scotland were further strengthened when Alexander married Joan, the sister of England's King Henry III, in 1221.
