G. Denton Myers. Prominently identified with the business life of Ashland is G. Denton Myers, who is vice president and sales manager of the F. E. Myers & Bro. Company. He was born in Perry Township, near Ashland, the son of George and Elizabeth (Morr) Myers.

There were four boys in the Myers family, all of whom are well known in the community through their having engaged since early manhood in what is now known as the F. E. Myers & Bro. Company, of Ashland. They have been associated with each other in this business without interruption since they began manufacturing pumps in 1880.
G. Denton Myers attended the rural schools of Ashland County and Ohio Northern University at Ada. He began his career as a salesman with the F. E. Myers & Bro. Company, and in 1916 became identified with the company's office affairs. Upon the death of his brother, F. E. Myers, in 1923, he became sales manager, and when the business was incorporated he was elected to the office of vice president. He is also identified with the Union Hardware & Supply Company, of Ashland.
In 1894 Mr. Myers was united in marriage with Miss Jennie B. Heichel, of Jeromesville, the daughter of John and Maria Heichel. The former iied in 1918 and the latter died on April 28, 1914. Both are buried in Jeromesville. Mr. and Mrs. Myers had no children. She died in April, 1929, and is buried in Ashland Cemetery.
Mr. Myers is a Democrat, a member of the Church of Christ, and belongs to the Ashland Country Club and Commercial Club. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Y. M. C. A. in Ashland since the date of its organization.
Mr. Myers is an enthusiastic fisherman and spends some time during the summer months at Mullett Lake, Michigan, where he owns a cottage with his brother, A. N. Myers.

[4200] "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 30 January 1987," p. 6: "Ashland - B. Frank Paullin, 88, formerly of 136 Maple St., died early this morning in Good Shepherd Nursing Home after a long illness. He was born Feb. 4, 1898, in Ashland County to the late William and Elizabeth Garst Paullin and was a lifelong Ashland County resident. Mr. Paullin was retired from Cresco Manufacturing and was a self-employed furniture refinisher. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Ashland City Club. Surviving are his wife, Ethel Kinney Paullin; two sons, Clayton and Dale, both of Ashland; one stepson, Dick McClure of Canton; one stepdaughter, Helen Fox of Toledo; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fay Fierbaugh of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia June Crumlick Paullin. who died in 1951."

William had also five illegitimate children, a son and four daus., from each of whom sprang one of the claimants to the Crown in 1291-92. William I was succeeded by his son, King Alexander II (reigned 1214-1249); Alexander II was succeeded by his son, King Alexander III (r. 1249-86), whose children are Alexander (d. 1284), David (d. 1281) and Margaret (d. 1283, m. Eric II, King of Norway - they had Margaret, "Maid of Norway", d. 1290). William inherited the earldom of Northumberland in 1152, but five years later Henry II of England annexed it. Hoping to regain this earldom, William invaded England in 1174 and was captured at Alnwick. He then signed the Treaty of Falaise in which he acknowledged Henry as his feudal superior. In 1189 William recovered the overlordship of Scotland by the Quitclaim of Canterbury, paying the new English king 10,000 marks. In 1192 Pope Celestine III declared the Scottish church independent of any English hierarch. {See "The Acts of William I," G.W.S.Barrow, 1971.} William is buried at the Abbey of Abroath.
