Mr. Darling was born in Mansfield Feb. 16, 1913, and had lived here all his life. He was a retired agent for Western and Southern Life Insurance Co. and an agent with the Athey Realty Co. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Venus Lodge No. 152, F and AM, Valley of Canton. AASR and Al Koran Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna Mae Mowry Darling; one daughter, Mrs. Patricia K. [53623] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 18 March 2021: "Milo - David A. Preble, 78, passed away on March 15th, 2021. David was born on June 22, 1942, son of Albert and Dorothy (Getchell) Preble. David was a member of the Milo Fire Dept. for 50 years, and the chief from 1987-2016. He was also chief of the Brownville, ME, fire dept. for 13 years. The fire department was a big part of David's life and was his second home in many ways. David was loved and highly respected by the whole community. David was a truck driver from the time he was a teenager until his retirement in 2010. He was also a FreeMason for many years. David loved fishing and hunting and going to his favorite place, 'Millbrook,' whenever he could go. He especially loved sharing the Millbrook experience with his sons, and grandchildren, and all of their friends who he treated like his own family. David enjoyed many 'happy hours' spent at Millbrook, Moosehead, and Schoodic lake with family and friends. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his son, Clayton Preble; and stepson Galen Crocker. David is survived by his wife Norma; his two sons, Greg Preble and wife, Tina, and Tony Preble and wife, Judy; stepson, Kevin Crocker and wife, Tammy; brothers, Rodney Preble and wife, Eunice, Randy Preble and wife, Pamela; sisters, Diane Lamson and husband, Norman, Lynette Dow and husband, Jr, Maureen Briggs and husband, Gary, Pamela Peterson and husband, Steve, Rhoda Storen and partner, Dennis Roy; and five grandchildren, whom he loved very much, Jessica Preble, Clayton Preble, Victoria Raymond, Austin Crocker, and Trevor Crocker. David was also a foster dad to many boys. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and his family at the firehouse."
