Buffington, 77, of Gratz, died at her home this morning at 3 o clock. She had been failing recently and her death was due to complications. A native of Northumberland County she was born March 29, 1889, a daughter of the late James and Mary Rothermel Geist. She was a member of Simeon's United Church of Christ, Gratz. Mrs. Buffington's husband, Harry, preceded her in death 17 years ago. She is survived by one brother, Edwin Geist, Gratz and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday aiternoon at 2 o'clock from the Marlin S. Reed funeral home, Pillow. Her pas tor, James G. Reed, Elizabethville, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Gratz Union Cemetery."

Such pilgrims generally brought back a palm branch as proof that they had actually made the journey, but there was a vigorous trade in false souvenirs, and the term also came to be applied to a cleric who sold indulgences."
